Today was the first day of climbing in preparation for the Triple Bypass and Mt. Evans. 20 miles out and back for a total of 40 miles, two climbs, but not terrible just yet. I left earlier than Sascha to take the climbs at my own pace and be waiting with coffee for the tired girl! The main thing I noticed was the scenery - it was like I was back in Oregon again, except the mountains are taller! Alpine rivers, milkd temperatures, oxygenated air, respectful drivers, lots of cyclists - it was truly a pleasure. The other thing I noticed both yesterday and today was a pretty low heart rate. I haven't noticed any other effects though, but I assume if I were riding with local Cat 4s I'd notice something. Then again, I can't keep up with the Cat 4s in Minnesota either!
After the ride I was extremely frustrated to find that my bike computer had no display when I went to record my ride stats. I've had a lot of trouble lately with my Cateye HR200DW, so it looks like it's time to consider a new one. Right now I'm considering the Sigma Sport BC 2006 MHR. Trouble is I can't find one anywhere - no one has them in stock! Grrr.
