Until recently, as my training schedule has ramped up, my yoga schedule has ramped down. Ironically, the harder I'm training, the more I need yoga. After a few weeks without yoga I was not a happy camper and made time for it. I'm so happy I did. Now it's part of the training schedule, and I feel much better. Cycling really creates tight hamstrings and, in addition to a desk job, makes you feel all hunched over. Yoga fixes that, among other things.
__A while ago, at a different studio, we had a class in which we practiced with our eyes closed. This is a challenge, especially for poses that require a good sense of balance. I'm currently practicing at a studio that uses a heated room like Bikram, but otherwise it's regular Vinyasa yoga. I was wearing glasses yesterday, and glasses and sweat don't go together. Remembering the 'blind' class, I just skipped the glasses. As before, it was a different practice - more inwardly focused. Although balance wasn't a problem because I'm not totally blind, I wasn't distracted by things around me, and it was a better practice for that. For better or worse, I couldn't check out the yoga hotties around me either, but that's part of what prevents my practice from being more focused!
__In any event, I'm feeling so much better now. No more tight hamstrings, aching back, hunched over posture. I'm walking tall again, on and off the bike!
