WTF is going on?

First I hear a barrage of gunshots outside my window night before last:

Minneapolis police investigating 3 shootings

Then this:

Baffling violence left lone bicyclist dying on a lawn

What's going on in my neighborhood? Neither of the events near my house appear to be drug-related. It wasn't even a full moon!
