This is how it works:
1. Get your front derailleur mucked up with Minnesota springtime road salt and grit
2. Do a 52 mile bike ride entirely in your big chainring. No 26 cog in the back either because of crossover!
3. Do it on a 23 pound Surly Pacer
4. With a 10 mph wind
5. Barf
6. Repeat
You'll be fit in no time!
